Desktop Computer BundlesIf you're looking for your first computer or want to replace multiple items, Desktop Computer Bundles might be your best choice. Many manufacturers include monitors, printers, and other accessories for a very reasonable package price. The problem with many desktop computer bundles is you have to make sure that each component is worth the bargain price. The manufacturers or big retail stores like Target, Walmart, or even Office Depot often have or make their own desktop computer bundle deals. Where you need to be careful is they often stick one lesser item in the mix that either is very low end or an item they couldn't sell by itself. And it could be any of the items included, especially the computer. This is a common sales tactic to clear out items. So you want to be careful to review each desktop computer bundle items. Many retailers will go to a manufacturer and say we want a desktop computer bundle for no more than X amount. This puts the manufacturer in a position where they may need to shave corners or produce an item for a lower cost, hence lower value. It may be on the computer, printer, monitor, or any of the components in a desktop computer bundles deal. A good example is Walmart and a current desktop computer bundle from HP. The bundle price is $498 which sounds pretty good for an 18.5 inch LCD monitor and computer. In fact that's a nice monitor they included based on the specifications mentioned. The turkey is the processor in the computer. It's AMD Sempron LE-250 that really sucks. If you bought the chip outright at retail it would be $29, and trust me when I say that's overpriced. That chip is a dog that won't hunt. If you go to Best Buy and get a Compaq - Presario Desktop with AMD Athlon™ II Dual-Core Processor Model: CQ5320Y for $389 and then get an Acer or Dell 18.5 inch LCD for about $119 it's a much better deal. That dual-core processor, an extra gig of ram, and extra 150 gigs of storage on the hard drive will boost the computer performance. All for about another $10 (498 versus $508) you get a much better and faster computer. So always look at the individual items in any desktop computer bundles to make sure you are getting the best deal. Don't get bamboozled by the bottom line and forget to look at the details on each item in the bundle. And don't think that just because Walmart has a reputation for cheaper prices that it's a good deal, be careful to look at the value for the dollar. There Are Good Deals: If you check around you can find some good desktop computer bundles that really offer a better price than on the individual items purchased separately. But you need to take the time and do some research to find the best value and lowest price. And if you have the time, keep an eye on weekend advertisements as there are often good deals that come and go with in store promotions on a special desktop computer bundle. If Your Budget Is Limited: Don't forget places like Craigs List or eBay if you want a really low cost. Sometimes a gently used higher end computer and monitor or printer can be had for less the a new low end bundle. Always check them out to make sure they are in good working order and are no older than 2 years as a rule of thumb. What About Warranties: Always check the fine print in any warranties. Make sure you understand exactly what time elements are involved and what the replacement or repair limitations are before you have an issue. The details often take away what the headlines give so be careful. Check What Software Is Offered: Make sure you know what software is on the computer in any desktop computer bundles you check out. Software can be expensive and in some cases be more costly than the hardware. So always check to see if you get what you need in regard to any software on the equipment and watch out for 30 or 90 day free trial versions. |
